Anyone planning a return visit to Marseillan should add to their list of ‘must do’s’ a visit to Carrieres de Lumieres. Situated at the bottom of the village of Le Baux de Province (one of the best villages to visit), this subterranean disused limestone quarry has been transformed into a venue for truly wonderful ‘son et lumiere’ shows. This underground cavern is vast and their shows are on a huge scale, transporting one into a visual and musical wonderland.
Each year a new show is designed and staged – the present very beautiful show around Van Gogh’s paintings will continue until early 2020 when it will be taken down and another show put on for the following year.
The visit to this show was undoubtedly the highlight for this year. Another highly recommended visit is to the Chateau de Grézan which is at Laurens, not too far beyond Pézenas. This chateau has been converted to an art and music centre and offers frequent delightful events which usually include various music offerings, art exhibitions, artisan stalls and the chance to sit under the trees in the chateau yard to enjoy tapas and wine.
